Eugene "Gene" M. Nix, 83, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, Eugene worked as a estimator with Dana Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Bishop Luers Bingo Bunch, and instrumental in building the Bishop Luers football field. Gene had a love for his church and people exhibited by the help he gave during the St. Patrick Church Arcola renovation and by helping those in need. Surviving are his wife, Joan Nix (Kohrman) of Fort Wayne; daughter, Susan Iannucilli of Fort Wayne; son, Daniel (Melissa) Nix of Fort Wayne; son, Christopher (Barbara) Nix of Fort Wayne; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Kurek of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Angela (Josh) Capps, Leslie (Brian) Iannucilli, Stacey (Andrew) Dilley, Elizabeth Nix, Joseph Nix, Sarah Nix, Tyler Nix, Conner Nix, Samuel Kurek, and Abigail Kurek; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Zeno (Helen) Nix; sisters, Armella Scott, Katherine (Don) Scharlach, and Pauline Baker . Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Theresa Nix, son-in-law, Jon Iannucilli; brothers, Kenneth Nix, and Thomas Nix; sisters, Bernadine Koch, Annette Imm, and Lorena Bugbee. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 am, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd with calling 1hr prior. Calling also at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd Tuesday, April 9, 2013 2-5pm & 7-9pm with a vigil at 4:30 pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
